Pizza My Heart expands with Pleasant Hill restaurant

The pizza chain born on the beach has expanded to Pleasant Hill.

Pizza My Heart and its surf-and-slice theme (with a custom-made surfboard dining table) is now open at the Crossroads (Kohl’s) Shopping Center. The family-owned pizzeria was founded in 1981 on Capitola Beach, with a Santa Cruz shop opening a few years later. There are now nearly 30 locations stretching from Monterey to Contra Costa.

Pizza My Heart specializes in topping its whole pies and slices with regionally sourced vegetables, nitrite/nitrate-free pepperoni and bacon and antibiotic-free chicken. Specialty pies include The Big Sur, with 40 cloves of roasted garlic scattered among the sausage, pepperoni and mushrooms, and the Figgy Piggy, which features black figs, feta, bacon and sage.

The slice of the season is Mushroom Magic, with three mushroom varieties — portobello, shiitake and button — plus sausage and mozzarella atop a parmesan-garlic sauce, said the company’s executive chef, Spencer Glenn. He visited and met customers at the shop’s grand opening on Jan. 20.

Details: Open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., until 10 on Friday-Saturday, at 2380 Monument Blvd., Pleasant Hill; www.pizzamyheart.com
