The Pittsburgh Pirates are currently taking on the Milwaukee Brewers in a four-game set.
Game four between Pittsburgh and Milwaukee is taking place on Thursday afternoon, and the Pirates are looking to split the series with a win.

As of Wednesday, Aug. 5, the Pittsburgh Pirates have officially released OF P.J. Hilson from their minor-league system.

Pirates Released OF P.J. Hilson
According to his MiLB.com transaction tracker, 25-year-old outfielder P.J. Hilson has been released by the Pirates:
“Indianapolis Indians released OF P.J. Hilson.”
Hilson was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants, and he’s yet to make his MLB debut.
Now that he’s been released, any MLB organization can pick him up.
Across 59 games (150+ at-bats), Hilson has batted .190 with an OPS of .559. The poor offensive stats are likely what led to the release.
Across 1600+ ABs in the Minors, Hilson holds a lifetime average of .239 with 55 home runs and 227 RBI.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the most interesting MLB teams to watch over the final two months of the 2026 season.
For the first time in nearly a decade, they were aggressive at the MLB trade deadline, as they added multiple bullpen pieces to round out their pitching staff.
Pittsburgh already has a very sound offense, but the bullpen woes have kept them from winning way more games. They are currently 57-59, and in fourth place in the NL Central.
However, despite a sub-.500 record, the Pirates still have a fighter’s chance in the NL Wild Card race. Pittsburgh is just 3-7 in its last 10 games and needs to put together a stretch of winning baseball soon if they do want any chance to play in October.
