Phony customs agent bilks Saratoga resident for over $4,000

July 15

Vandalism: Between 10 p.m. on July 14 and 1:15 p.m. on July 15, someone spray-painted an obscene image on the hood of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in the 13000 block of Quito Road. The total amount of damage was estimated at $800.

Identity theft: On July 15, Someone used a Saratoga resident’s personal information to obtain credit accounts, which went into collections, for a loss of about $2,637.

July 16

Theft by false pretenses: Someone telephoned a Saratoga resident acting as a representative with Customs and Border Protection and claimed the victim was under investigation for criminal activity, ultimately convincing the victim to send money via gift cards for a total loss of approximately $4,752.

July 18

Vandalism: Between 8:45 a.m. on July 17 and 5:50 p.m. on July 18, someone spray-painted a vehicle in the 13000 block of Quito Road. The total amount of damage is unknown.

July 19

Felon in possession of tear gas: At 9:30 a.m., task force deputies serving outstanding warrants contacted the wanted suspect at a residence in the 15000 block of Sobey Road. An investigation revealed the suspect was in possession of OC spray. The suspect was arrested and booked into main jail.

July 20

Package theft: At 1:08 p.m., someone stole two mail packages just after they were delivered to the front porch of a residence in the 20000 block of Glasgow Drive for a total loss valued at approximately $103.

Shoplifting: At 3:40 p.m., someone entered Safeway in the Argonaut Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and stole merchandise valued at approximately $300.

July 21

Petty theft: Between 11:09 p.m. and 11:56 p.m., someone stole a surveillance camera from a residence in the 14000 block of Saratoga Avenue for a loss valued at approximately $250.
