The Philadelphia Phillies are in a tough skid right now. They lost 7-4 to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday and have not lost seven straight MLB games.
They hold a 8-15 record, which is behind just the New York Mets for the worst record in MLB. The only team in the NL with a worse record than the Phillies and Mets? The Colorado Rockies. Go Figure.
On Wednesday, before the Cubs game, a new JT Realmuto roster update surfaced.

Per multiple team reports, JT Realmuto is hitting the Injured List with lower back tightness.
Phillies’ reporter Matt Gelb wrote (shortly after the news): “News: The Phillies are putting J.T. Realmuto on the injured list. Garrett Stubbs will return and split time at catcher with Rafael Marchán. Another blow to a team that desperately needs something to go right. ”
Gelb is right, this is a tough injury blow for the Phillies. Realmuto has been off to a solid start this season, and Rafael Marchan and Garrett Stubbs don’t provide much offense.
In 17 games this season, Realmuto is hitting .259 with two doubles and one home run. He’s also scored five runs and walked five times. Another stemming issue from this news is the fact that JT Realmuto anchors the pitching staff in ways that Stubbs and Marchan can’t. Especially with Zack Wheeler returning to the rotation on Saturday, he will have to pitch to a catcher that’s not Realmuto.

JT Realmuto has been a member of the Philadelphia Phillies since 2019. He recently signed a three-year, $45 million contract this offseason.
He’s a two-time All-Star with the Phillies (2019, 2022).
Over 850 games with the Phillies, Realmuto has 122 HR’s, 438 RBI, a .265 batting average, and .448 slugging percentage.
One of the better catchers of this generation. He previously played for the Miami Marlins.
In 2025, Realmuto played 134 games but saw a dip in production, as he hit .257 with a 91 OPS+. The previous 11 years of his MLB career had featured an OPS+ above 100, which is considered league average. It appears the injuries may be starting to catch up to JT Realmuto, who had been such a dependable backstop for the last decade.
