PFF Names Bills ‘Best Landing Spot’ For Future Hall Of Fame Wide Receiver

All but two NFL teams did not end the season how they wanted, and Pro Football Focus is in full offseason mode, pitching ideas that can land impact free agents on new teams. For the Buffalo Bills, the consensus is once again that general manager Brandon Beane’s wide receiving core let down quarterback Josh Allen on the pursuit of the elusive Lombardi Trophy.

PFF’s latest projection ensures that nobody in their right mind could criticize Allen’s receivers by landing one of the greatest of our generation.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans was the seventh overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. He has made more than $150 million in his career with Tampa Bay, never having played for another squad.

But his two-year, $41 million extension expired when Tampa Bay failed to make the playoffs.

He is now an unprotected free agent, and teams are able to take their biggest swing at the future Hall of Famer, whether he listens to them or not.

PFF believes no team is better suited to land the receiver than Buffalo.

PFF Makes A Case For Mike Evans To Buffalo

Evans struggled to stay healthy this year.

He only appeared in eight games and rarely got his typical snap share.

This unfortunately resulted in the 32-year-old receiver failing to hit 1,000 yards in a season for the very first time in his professional career.

PFF attributes the regression last season to injury luck, writing that they expect Evans to be back to changing games in Year 12.

“The Bills’ glaring weakness at wide receiver was on full display once again in 2025 as the team struggled to stretch the field vertically, recording the sixth-fewest receptions on throws of 20-plus yards. Khalil Shakir has been a consistently productive threat from the slot, earning a PFF overall grade of at least 74.3 in each of the past three years, but the team needs more help outside,” a PFF article reads.

“Mike Evans missed time with multiple injuries in 2025 but is just one year removed from ranking third among all wideouts with an elite 90.4 PFF overall grade. While the 32-year-old’s best days may be behind him, he can still be a valuable piece on a contending team in the short term.”

Bills Cap Situation Next Year

Buffalo is currently nearly $10 million over the cap in 2026. But that is before any offseason negotiations have taken place.

It is likely players will walk and contracts will be restructured, but given the state of the offensive line, quarterback, and defensive makeup, it is unlikely that Buffalo will end up with more than $50 million to work with.

The only glaring issue that can not be addressed in the draft is wide receiver.

That’s not to say there aren’t good receivers available, but Buffalo needs a slam dunk.

With their current cap situation, it’s likely that the Bills will once again have their sights set on bringing in a proven veteran on a short-term deal.

If they do end up with $50 million to spend, they can afford nearly every receiver in the NFL.
