The crash happened about 5:45 p.m. in an area of Old Warm Springs Boulevard between South Grimmer Boulevard and Tavis Place. Police closed that stretch of boulevard for hours.

Officers and fire crews that responded found the vehicle on fire inside the building, Fremont police Sgt. Kim Macdonald said in an email Tuesday morning. That fire spread to the building itself.

Macdonald confirmed the incident was a fatality.

Fremont Fire crews extinguished the fire. There were no other reports of injuries.

No other information was available immediately. Macdonald said police likely would have more details later Tuesday.
