ALAMEDA — A 59-year-old woman who suffered fatal injuries Wednesday when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street here was identified by the coroner’s bureau Friday as Karen Conway of Alameda.
The fatal collision happened about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway and Coral Sea Street.
Police said based on the preliminary investigation, it appears Conway was crossing Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a car making a westbound turn onto the parkway.
Police said the exact cause of the collision has yet to be determined.
Conway was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
The vehicle driver, a 70-year-old Alameda man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information may call police traffic investigators at 510-337-8586.
The death is the first traffic fatality of the year in Alameda, police said. There was one traffic fatality in the city all of last year.
