Patriots TE Reacts as Mike Vrabel Sets the Tone In Locker Room

New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry discussed the message that coach Mike Vrabel communicated to the players after one has been a difficult offseason for the head coach.

Henry has been one of the key veterans for the team in what has been an ever-changing roster. He joined the Patriots in 2021 and has been a dependable leader on and off the field. He was once thought of as a key addition in free agency. Since then, he has become more than just a key addition, but a valuable piece in the locker room. This has also led to him being the team captain since the 2023 season.

Henry Discusses Message of Patriots Coach

Henry was able to showcase that veteran leadership on Tuesday, when he addressed the media, as reported by the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed.

“I thought he did a great job. He’s been the same Vrabes, bringing a lot of energy in the room.”

Henry is coming off a 2025 season that saw him produce at a high level. He recorded 60 catches for 768 yards and seven touchdowns. He was able to establish a career-high in receiving yards last year. He was also able to reach new milestones in the process. He caught his first career postseason touchdown in the Wild Card round against the Los Angeles Chargers.  Henry also recorded three receptions in the team’s Super Bowl LX loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The 2025 season was a microcosm of his entire Patriots career. 2024 was also a record-setting season for him. His 674 receiving yards were a personal best at the time. Henry has acquired at least 40 receptions and 400 yards in every season with New England, making this the second-longest streak by a Patriots tight end.

Breaking it down on a franchise level, he is also up there among the greats. He currently ranks third in franchise history for receptions by a tight end with 259 and fifth in receiving yards with 2,973. The veteran has 26 touchdowns, showcasing his value as a red-zone threat.

Veteran Presence Could Be Valuable For Patriots

Now, he could be a valuable piece in the tight end room once again. They currently have Julian Hill, who was signed in free agency as the second tight end. Eli Raridon is the newest addition to the Patriots, having been drafted last week. There is not a ton of depth at the position at the moment, but Henry should undoubtedly be able to hold things down as the dependable veteran. He has been able to do that over the past couple of seasons with several different quarterbacks.

In the meantime, his value as a locker room leader was exemplified on Tuesday. His voice will be important for the organization moving forward, especially as the team looks to get back to a Super Bowl. Although off-field distractions have been at the forefront for the Patriots this offseason, the team itself still has work to do. They added new faces on both sides of the football during free agency and made crucial depth moves during the draft. We are going to have to see how it all comes together, but the roster itself looks promising.
