The New England Patriots offseason has taken an interesting turn over the past couple of days, thanks to their head coach, Mike Vrabel. Last week, photos emerged showing Vrabel and NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic spending time together at a luxurious resort in Arizona, with rumors suggesting that the pair are engaging in an affair with each other.
While Russini has been sidelined as The New York Times (The Athletic’s parent company) begins an investigation into her relationship with Vrabel, the Pats’ leader has been eerily quiet since initially denying the notion that he and Russini are engaged in a relationship. On Monday, general manager Eliot Wolf spoke with the media ahead of the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, and he issued some eye-opening comments regarding Vrabel.
Eliot Wolf on Mike Vrabel — ‘Business as Usual’
The situation with Vrabel and Russini is certainly ongoing, but for the most part, it’s been radio silence since the photos emerged last week, with the only real update being that Russini was the subject of an investigation from the New York Times. All eyes turned to the Pats pre-draft press conference, but the only person who spoke to reporters was Wolf (which had been the team’s plan since all the way back in March).
As a result, Wolf ended up being the guy who had to face questions regarding Vrabel’s status with the team moving forward. In a surprise turn of events, though, Wolf only ended up getting asked one question about Vrabel, with the rest of the discussion centering around the upcoming draft and a handful of other offseason rumors.
What Wolf said about Vrabel, though, quickly caught the attention of football fans everywhere. Wolf was not asked directly about Vrabel and Russini, but rather the head coach’s involvement in New England’s draft preparation. And based on what he said, it doesn’t seem like this situation has had much of an impact on the team at 1 Patriot Place.
“Very involved. Business as usual,” Wolf said when asked about Vrabel’s involvement in the team’s pre-draft preparations. “I’d say he’s been in there with us, this round of meetings, probably a little bit more than he was last year.”
Do the Patriots Have Anything to Worry About with Mike Vrabel?

It was a little bit surprising to see reporters avoiding any sort of hard-hitting questions regarding Vrabel, but it probably was done just to spare Wolf from having to provide answers that he doesn’t have. There’s no doubt the team is monitoring this situation, but at this point in time, there isn’t any new information, and the only people who can really speak on what happened besides Vrabel and Russini.
Vrabel is set to speak to reporters before the draft next week, but until then, fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for any sort of new information on the investigation being conducted by The Athletic into Russini’s dealings. Chances are, we will have some sort of new update on the whole situation by then, but how Vrabel chooses to address this controversy will surely be noteworthy.
