One missing persons cold case resolved in latest Santa Rosa Police Department social media push

The Santa Rosa Police Department’s latest social media push to find missing persons whose trails have gone cold concluded with one of the 23 featured cases being resolved, the department announced this week.

The department’s five-week “Missing Person Monday” campaign, in which police shared photos and last known whereabouts of people that they consider missing in the hope that community members can provide information about where they are now, kicked off Jan. 5.

One person, 68-year-old Harvey Thompson, was located in a different California city thanks to a Facebook post, bringing the total number of resolved cases to 14 since the campaign started two years ago, Sgt. Patricia Seffens said in an email to The Press Democrat on Monday, Feb. 9. Thompson was reported missing by his landlord in July 2025, police previously said.

The campaign was first developed and led by intern Erica Meyer in 2024. At the time, Meyer said she developed the campaign after running into dead ends in her investigations.

“I really felt if I could get their photos out I might get a call from a co-worker or friend who could lead me in the right direction,“ Meyer told The Press Democrat in 2024.

Investigators with the department continued the campaign following Meyer’s departure in 2025.

As with the three previous campaigns in 2024 and 2025, authorities shared weekly posts highlighting a few missing persons, rather than one long list, in an effort to draw more public attention.

The first six-week campaign, launched in January 2024, featured 30 cases dating back to 1984 and helped police locate five people, including one who had been missing since 2005.

Launched in August 2024, the second seven-week campaign resulted in the resolution of three additional cold cases, police said. The third campaign, which ran for five weeks beginning in August 2025, resulted in five of the 25 featured cases resolved, the department said last year.

In announcing the results of the latest effort police again shared the photos and information on the 22 unresolved missing persons cases highlighted during the latest campaign.
