The man, who was wounded multiple times, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased, authorities said.

Police have not released a motive yet for the killing. No arrests have been announced and no suspect information has been released.

The non-fatal shooting happened about 5:28 p.m. at a homeless camp  in the 1600 block of East 12th Street, authorities said.

Initial reports were that a 45-year-old man, who did not live at the camp, was walking with some other people when they were confronted by a man with a shotgun who apparently did live at the camp, authorities said.

The armed man asked the other men what they were doing in the area and when they did not immediately respond, he began shooting at them, authorities said.  The 45-year old man was struck in the leg.  He was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition.  The suspect fled before police responded to the scene.

The fatal shooting was the second homicide Wednesday investigated by police and the eighth since last Thursday, including three on New Year’s Day. The other homicide Wednesday happened just after 3 a.m. when a 45-year-old man was fatally shot outside his home on 24th Avenue in East Oakland.
