A freeway crash involving two cars killed a person Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

Authorities did identify the person, pending notification of relatives. They pronounced that person dead at the scene.
According to the CHP, the crash happened about 10:45 p.m. on northbound Interstate 280 at the state Highway 1 junction near the Eastmoor Avenue exit. The wreck involved a Honda and another undisclosed vehicle, according to the CHP.
The crash blocked the four left lanes and left only the far right one open on northbound I-280. The CHP issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic that was in place until they opened all the lanes about 1:30 a.m. Friday.
No other information was available immediately.
