OKC Thunder Get Concerning Injury News vs Pistons

Heading into a battle against the Detroit Pistons, the Oklahoma City Thunder listed their star center, Chet Holmgren, on the injury report.

According to the Thunder, the big man is dealing with lower back spasms. As a result, he’s considered doubtful to play against the Eastern Conference’s top seed on the road in Michigan.

Holmgren is far from the only key player to pop up on the Thunder’s injury report. The defending NBA champions are dealing with numerous setbacks, which puts them in a tough spot on Wednesday, February 25.

How Many Players Are On The Thunder’s Injury Report vs Pistons?

Beyond Holmgren, the Thunder are going to be without their MVP-winning guard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He’s been out of the mix for several weeks now, as he deals with an abdominal strain.

The Thunder also listed out Ajay Mitchell, Thomas Sorber, Jalen Williams, and the big man, Isaiah Hartenstein. Along with Holmgren, the two-way standout guard Alex Caruso is considered doubtful for the matchup. He is dealing with an ankle sprain.

On the other side, the Pistons are quite healthy. Three out of four players listed out are on G League assignments (Bobi Klintman, Chaz Lanier, and Wendell Moore Jr.). The veteran center Isaiah Stewart is out as he’s serving a month-long suspension after fighting in a Pistons-Hornets game.

When Could Chet Holmgren Return?

GettyShai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren are two key stars on the Thunder’s injury report this week.

While the Pistons clash is unlikely to be an opportunity for Holmgren to play, he hasn’t been ruled out for future games just yet. Considering his day-to-day status, Holmgren is likely viewed as day-to-day.

The veteran center hasn’t missed a game since February 4, when the Thunder paid a visit to the San Antonio Spurs. Before the Thunder reached the All-Star break, Holmgren appeared in four games. After the break, he was back on the court for the next two matchups, including the latest against the Toronto Raptors on February 24.

Against the Raptors, Holmgren appeared in 30 minutes. He shot 3-8 from the field, scoring seven points. The veteran center dished out four assists, came down with nine rebounds, and blocked three shots. The Thunder defeated the Raptors 116-107.

After the Thunder and the Pistons face off, OKC will return to their home court to host Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. Barring any further concerning updates from Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault, Holmgren should be penciled in as a potential participant in that matchup on February 27.

For now, all eyes are on the Pistons-Thunder game, which is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.
