Officer injured during arrest of carjacking suspect in Englewood

A Chicago police officer was injured while arresting a carjacking suspect early Friday in Englewood.

The suspect waved down a 39-year-old driver and entered his vehicle showing a gun about 12:20 a.m. in the 6600 block of South Campbell Avenue in Chicago Lawn, Chicago police said.

The driver ran off and the suspect took the vehicle, police said. Officers found the vehicle and were able to arrest the suspect in the 5600 block of South Paulina Street.

During the arrest, an officer suffered a hand injury and was taken to an area hospital in fair condition, officials said.

A firearm was recovered. Charges were pending.
