Oakland: Woman allegedly tried to sneak 51 lbs of marijuana on flight to Indianapolis

OAKLAND — A 35-year-old woman was arrested after booking a flight to Indianapolis with a bag full of marijuana, according to authorities.

The woman, who has not yet been charged, allegedly made almost no effort to hide the contraband, sticking dozens of bags of cannabis flowers and gummies into her luggage and checking the bags with Southwest Airlines, according to police.

The bust occurred Dec. 22 with the help of a police K9 named Luna, but her assistance was hardly necessary; police say they’d already flagged the luggage before their furry companion was called in to help.

The flight was scheduled to leave Oakland for Denver, with an ultimate destination of Indiana, but Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the flight and arrested the woman before it took off. She refused to provide a statement and was booked into jail, authorities said.

Investigators say they found more than 51 pounds of cannabis and 22 packages of cannabis-infused gummies, commonly known as edibles. The items were seized as part of the investigation.
