OAKLAND — Police here have identified two brothers who were killed after an unidentified gunman allegedly kicked down their door and shot them both in the back.
Nathanuel Wills, 48, and his little brother Jason Wills, 46, were shot and killed on Dec. 20, inside an apartment on the 300 block of Fairmount Avenue in Oakland. Police say that the double homicide happened during a planned child exchange involving other people in the area, and may have been related to a verbal dispute that occurred shortly before shots were fired.
The shooting occurred just a few minutes after 11 p.m. on Dec. 20, authorities said.
The Wills brothers lived in the area and may have contacted one of the children involved in the custody exchange beforehand, according to authorities. Police say they recovered multiple shell casings and drug paraphernalia from the apartment, but no weapons.
No arrests have been announced, and no charges have been filed, according to court records. The brothers were pronounced dead inside the dwelling and the suspect left before police arrived, authorities said.
