Northbound I-25 closed south of Fort Collins for five-car crash

Northbound Interstate 25 is closed Tuesday morning south of Fort Collins after a five-car crash, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

CDOT officials said the northbound interstate is closed at mile point 262, where I-25 intersects with Colorado 392.

Cameras in the area show multiple cars stranded in the snowy median of the interstate and, as of 7:15 a.m., at least two ambulances were at the crash scene.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. and at least five vehicles were involved, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol. Paramedics took at least one person to the hospital, state patrol officials said.

“Road conditions remain icy and motorists should lower their speeds, leave extra room between vehicles and drive with caution,” state patrol officials said in the release. “First responders are still working this scene and exact numbers will be confirmed or updated.”

Traffic is being diverted off northbound I-25 at Exit 392 for Windsor, state patrol officials said. Drivers should avoid the area and take other routes.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
