NEW ORLEANS — The NFL honored Virginia McCaskey and Dick Jauron a video that aired inside Caesars Superdome two hours before kickoff of the Super Bowl.
The league’s video tribute to players, coaches and executives who died during the past year prominently featured McCaskey, the Bears’ matriarch who died Thursday morning at 102. She was one of the few on the list of people honored to have her name stand alone next to a photo of her. McCaskey was the last person displayed in the league’s montage, which aired on the scoreboard over instrumental music.
Jauron’s name appeared on a list of the recently departed, too. The Bears’ head coach from 1999-2003 — and the 2001 Coach of the Year — died from cancer on Saturday morning. Jauron was the Bills’ head coach from 2006-09, too.
McCaskey, the daughter of Bears founder George Halas, will have a wake Tuesday and a private funeral on Wednesday.
