NFL Announces Cowboys News Before 2026 NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys are one of the 32 NFL teams bracing for the NFL draft, which is set for April 23 through 25 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Cowboys have eight picks in the draft, the first being No. 12 overall, followed by No. 20.

As the draft approaches, NFL experts and analysts all have their views on who Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will take with their early selections. While we won’t know who Dallas will actually take until the moment of the event, we do know who will be on the stage calling the picks for the Cowboys.

The NFL has announced a roster of football legends and active players calling their team’s draft picks, and it’s a star-studded tally of names. For the Dallas Cowboys, it’s the famed Tony Dorsett, who was drafted by the Cowboys back in 1977 as the second overall pick.

Dallas Cowboys Legend Tony Dorsett to Present Team’s Draft Picks

Dorsett makes sense to present for the Cowboys, because not only is he a legend from the franchise, but he was also a star running back from the University of Pittsburgh, where the draft is taking place. The Dallas Cowboys traded up with the Seattle Seahawks to get him in the draft.

The player spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Cowboys before being traded to the Denver Broncos to round out his final season in the NFL. With the league, he played a total of 173 games.

“To be a running back in this league at 183 pounds, sometimes I wonder how I played this long,” Dorsett said, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “I’m the second-leading rusher and I played 12 seasons when at one point I thought I would only play five. When I leaf through the pages of my scrapbook someday, I can smile about what I have done.”

Over his 12-year NFL career, Dorsett rushed for 12,739 yards, totaled 16,326 yards from scrimmage and He scored 546 points on 91 touchdowns, according to research from the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Who Should the Dallas Cowboys Select With Their No. 12 Pick in the NFL Draft?

So, who should the Cowboys snag with their top draft selections? Patrik Walker of the team’s official website has some thoughts. He wants the team to take Mansoor Delane, a cornerback, out of LSU with their No. 12 pick. He doesn’t leave any questions about his pick, either.

“Delane falling out of top-10 is a coup and I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth,” he states in the piece. “He’s gotten better every single season in college, be it at Virginia Tech or following his transfer to LSU.”

Walker adds that Delane is “telepathic in how he reads routes, and his athleticism makes him elite in zone while his physicality allows him to excel in press man, and with the speed to stay on the hip of speedy WRs.”

Sometimes, a player losing draft stock is a good thing, and that’s the case with Delane. Now that he’s likely not going inside the top 10, the Dallas Cowboys should absolutely jump at the chance to secure him.
