New York Yankees Manager Gives Encouraging Anthony Volpe Update

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe is still rehabbing from a torn labrum, but his return may bn sooner rather than later after the latest update by Yanks’ manager Aaron Boone.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday on the “Talkin’ Yanks” podcast by Jomboy Media that Volpe (shoulder) will take live batting practice Wednesday. It’s a significant step for Volpe, who is working his way back from October 2025 surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder. Boone added that, if all goes well, Volpe should be ready to begin a rehab assignment in two weeks.

How Will Anthony Volpe Fare in 2026?

It’s fair to assume that Volpe’s shoulder injury may have hindered his ability to hit and field in 2025.

But he’s grown to be one of the most controversial players on the Yankees’ current roster. In Volpe’s absence, it’s been Jose Caballero receiving the reps at shortstop. Anthony Volpe will definitely get his opportunities once he returns healthy, but if he struggles at the plate, those opportunities could be short-lived.

In 14 at-bats this season, Caballero has four hits, one RBI, and one stolen base.

In 153 games last season, Anthony Volpe hit .212 with 19 home runs and an OPS+ of 83. Not the best third season for the once top prospect shortstop.

However, Volpe is still just 24-years-old and still has time to develop. But the New York faithful may be running impatient.

Other Yankees Notes from Aaron Boone

Other notes from the Yankees skipper include JC Escarra getting his first start tonight against the Seattle Mariners.

Carlos Rodon is also working his way back from injury. According to reports, he threw 5o pitches in live BP this week.

Gerrit Cole, most notably, will return soon for the Yankees. Late April continues to be the target return date, but there will be a lot more Gerrit Cole updates as the calendar turns.

The Yankees continue to put on an ABS masterclass, but New York dropped its first game of the season on Monday night to the Mariners.
