Ahead of Wednesday’s game, Francys Romero of Beisbol FR reported that the Mets have signed Cionel Pérez to a Minor League contract.
Romero wrote: “Cuban left-hander reliever Cionel Pérez has signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets, per sources.”
Pérez had started out the season with the Washington Nationals.
He went 2-3 with a 6.19 ERA in 16 games.
Nationals Communications wrote (on May 4): “As a player with at least 5 years of Major League Service, Cionel Pérez had the option to declare free agency in lieu of accepting his outright assignment. Pérez has declared free agency.”

Pérez spent the first three seasons of his career playing for the Houston Astros before a one-year stint with the Cincinnati Reds.
The 30-year-old then pitched four seasons for the Baltimore Orioles before joining the Nationals.
Over 273 career games, Pérez has gone 17-9 with a 4.34 ERA.
Romero had written (on March 23 before the season): “Cionel Pérez has been informed that he has made the Washington Nationals Opening Day roster, per source. Cionel came from outside the roster to earn a spot with 6 scoreless innings, 5 strikeouts, and velocity of 95–98 mph during Spring Training. Represented by Octagon.”

The Mets come into Wednesday as the last-place team in the National League East with a 13-22 record in 35 games.
They are 7-10 in the 17 games they have played on the road away from Citi Field.
Following two more games with the Rockies, the Mets will head to Arizona for a series with the Diamondbacks on Friday.
