New York Mets Manager Makes Honest Statement After Twins Game

On Tuesday night, the New York Mets played the Minnesota Twins at Citi Field.

Despite a 3-0 lead, the Mets lost by a score of 5-3.

They have now lost 12 games in a row.

After the game, manager Carlos Mendoza met with the media (h/t SNY).

He made a very honest statement.

Mendoza: “It sucks, because you’re feeling good. Especially with the way the game was developing… You watch Nolan kind of dominate… Lindor sets the tone there with a three-run homer, you feel like you were getting some momentum, but then after that, we couldn’t do anything else.”

Considering how bad the Mets have played (with their talented roster), there will be a lot of pressure on Mendoza’s job going forward.

He is in his third season at the helm.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote: “The Royals won tonight, giving the Mets sole possession of the worst record in Major League Baseball.”

Looking At The Mets

With their loss to the Twins, the Mets are now 7-16 in 23 games, which has them at the bottom of the National League East.

They are just 3-7 in the ten games they have played at Citi Field.

After two more games against the Twins, the Mets will remain at home to host the Colorado Rockies.

The Mets are also coming off a season where they missed the 2025 MLB playoffs (after making the NLCS in 2024).

They do have good news upcoming, as the return of Juan Soto is on the horizon.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote: “The Mets lost their 12th straight after blowing a three-run lead. They didn’t get a hit over the final five innings. At 7-16, they are tied for the worst record in MLB. There is ugly, and then there is this. Juan Soto is expected to return tomorrow. That’s a start at least.”
