New Maxx Crosby News Sheds Light on Failed Ravens Trade

The story of the offseason was the failed Maxx Crosby trade between the Las Vegas Raiders in the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens offered two first round picks to acquire Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders. According to multiple reports, Maxx Crosby did not pass his physical in Baltimore which led the Ravens to back out of the trade.

“The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby. We have no further comment at this time,” the Raiders said in a statement in March.

The Baltimore Ravens had not traded a first round pick in their 31-year history until they made the trade for Crosby.

ESPN’s Ryan McFadden revealed in-depth details about how the trade fell apart. Reports revealed that Crosby’s knee was an issue before the Baltimore Ravens made the trade.

“In addition to their own doctors, the Ravens had a handful of doctors outside the organization weigh in on Crosby’s knee, including Dan Cooper, a renowned knee specialist and the Cowboys’ team doctor,” McFadden wrote in an ESPN article.

The Chicago Bears Considered Crosby Before Ravens

Before the Baltimore Ravens made the initial trade for Crosby, the Chicago Bears were considering the Pro-Bowl Pass rusher.

According to a report from the Athletic, the Bears were not willing to give two first-round picks for Crosby. Instead, the Baltimore Ravens made the trade, but we all know how that turned out. One team backed out of getting Crosby due to draft reasons and another backed out due to medical reasons. Nonetheless, Maxx Crosby is still a Raider.

Maxx Crosby is a five-time Pro Bowler and a 2-time second team All-Pro. He has established himself as one of the best run-stuffers in the NFL. The former All-Pro recorded 10 sacks last year. Maxx Crosby underwent meniscus repair surgery on January 7.

It had been revealed that the Baltimore Ravens wanted to pair Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson together. Consequently, Baltimore would end up with just one of them.

Maxx Crosby’s Knee and Trey Hendrickson

“The Ravens’ concern centered on the uncertainty of Crosby’s durability after a couple of seasons in Baltimore because of a degenerative issue in his knee, a source told ESPN.” McFadden wrote.

McFadden added that sources close to the Raiders explained the Ravens had a lot of information about Crosby’s knee and made the trade anyway.

“Multiple sources with direct knowledge of the situation believed the Raiders and Crosby’s representatives were transparent about the injury throughout the trade process and that Baltimore had done extensive research on Crosby’s recovery and timeline during that time.” McFadden wrote.

As mentioned, Trey Hendrickson served as an unintentional contingency plan for the Ravens.

In a shocking move–not even 24 hours after backing out of the Maxx Crosby trade–the Baltimore Ravens signed Trey Hendrickson to four-year $120 Million deal. Hendrickson was an All-Pro pass rusher for the Cincinnati Bengals since 2021. The All-Pro pass rusher led the league in sacks in 2024.

With the NFL draft coming up, Baltimore could buffer their pass rush even more now that they have their first-round picks back in 2026 and 2027.
