NBC announces Cubs great Anthony Rizzo will be part of its MLB coverage

Cubs fans will be seeing more of Anthony Rizzo — on TV.

During its Super Bowl pregame show Sunday, NBC announced that Rizzo, Clayton Kershaw and Joey Votto will be part of its MLB coverage, which begins this season.

The trio will serve as pregame analysts for NBC’s coverage of the wild-card round, and they’ll appear on select pregame shows for “Sunday Night Baseball” broadcasts with hosts Bob Costas and Ahmed Fareed.

“We’re excited to welcome Clayton, Anthony and Joey, three stars right off the field who can provide fresh perspective on the players, teams, and everything that makes baseball special,” NBC Sports executive producer and president of production Sam Flood said. “We look forward to rolling out some new concepts to take advantage of the unique insights of each analyst, beginning on Opening Day.”

NBC is beginning a three-year deal to carry what was ESPN’s baseball package, which includes Sunday night games and every wild-card series. NBC also regained the “MLB Sunday Leadoff” package of early Sunday games, which will be exclusive to streaming service Peacock. The network’s coverage will debut on Opening Day, March 26, with Pirates-Mets at noon and Diamondbacks-Dodgers at 7 p.m., when the Dodgers will raise their World Series banner.
