NASCAR: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Responds to Claims About Another Dale Earnhardt Sr. Son

NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. has addressed a viral internet rumor that claimed his father had a secret third son named “Figgy Earnhardt.” The story spread quickly over Easter weekend in 2026 after a Reddit post suggested that Dale Earnhardt Sr. had another son whose records had disappeared from online databases.

The claim gained traction across social media, with users sharing edited images and discussing the possibility as if it were real. In reality, Earnhardt Sr. had four children: Dale Jr., Kerry, Kelley, and Taylor. There has never been any record of a son named Figgy. The rumor continued to grow until Earnhardt Jr. responded publicly on his podcast.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Responds on Podcast

Earnhardt Jr. spoke about the rumor on the April 7 episode of the Dale Jr. Download during the “Ask Jr.” segment. Co-host TJ Majors asked him directly about the viral claim. Dale Jr.’s initial reaction was short and straightforward. “No. I mean, I’m assuming. Are you saying it does?”

He then explained why he did not immediately shut down the rumor. “I don’t want to ruin this thing for them because they’re having a good time with it. If I just said it didn’t exist, they’d be like, ‘Man, what an a–hole.’”

Earnhardt Jr. made it clear that he understood the situation and chose not to disrupt the ongoing conversation among fans. His response stayed consistent throughout the discussion as he acknowledged the rumor without giving it legitimacy.

How it All Started and Spread

It all began with a single Reddit post that questioned the existence of a third Earnhardt son. The post stated that the user “distinctly remember[ed]” a son named Figgy and could not find any trace of him online. Another user reportedly shared a similar memory, which added to the confusion.

From there, the claim spread across platforms. Social media users created memes, edited photos, and shared posts discussing the idea. The name “Figgy Earnhardt” quickly became a trending topic within NASCAR-related communities.

Despite the rapid spread, there is no factual basis for the claim. Public records and family history confirm that Earnhardt Sr.’s children are Dale Jr., Kerry, Kelley, and Taylor. No official source or historical record has ever referenced a person named Figgy Earnhardt.

Earnhardt Jr. Comments on Viral Trends

During the podcast, Earnhardt Jr. also reflected on how quickly the rumor gained attention. “I don’t know how these things come out of nowhere. From what I can tell it literally came from a single tweet or post on Reddit that there’s this mythical son of dad named Figgy that existed.”

“I mean the internet’s just having fun I guess. Just being goofy.”

Earnhardt Jr. also noted the speed at which the story spread. “It’s wild that everyone literally, how quickly everyone picked up on it. The things that you want to take off like this, don’t. And then this does.”

His comments focused on the nature of online trends and how quickly unverified claims can gain traction. He did not provide any indication that the rumor had any truth, and his remarks confirmed that the story originated from online speculation rather than fact.
