BERKELEY — A man riding a motorized scooter died early Friday after crashing on Adeline Street, authorities said.
The name of the man killed, who authorities said was 36 years old, was not immediately released pending notification of his family.

The crash happened about 12:24 a.m. Friday in the 2900 block of Adeline Street between Ashby Avenue and Russell Street in South Berkeley.
Police said that according to initial reports, the rider was traveling southbound on Adeline Street on a Vespa scooter when for a still-undetermined reason he veered off the roadway and struck the curb, causing him to be thrown onto the pavement when the scooter fell over.
The man suffered severe head and other injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police have not yet said if the man was wearing a helmet.
