Motorist shot in head crashes into Gage Park building

A motorist crashed into a building early Tuesday after someone in another car shot him in the head in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Around 5:20 a.m., the driver, a 57-year-old man, was driving near the 3100 block of West 59th Street when a silver or gold sedan pulled up alongside him and opened fire, Chicago police said.

The man was shot in the head and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was in critical condition, police said.

A passenger in victim’s car, a 24-year-old man, was also taken to Christ to be evaluated, officials said. He was in good condition and was not shot, police said.

The silver or gold car sped away and no arrests have been made.

Area 1 detectives are investigating.
