The Milwaukee Brewers shut out the New York Yankees 6-0, with the headline being Jacob Misiorowski’s electric start. The Brewers ace pitched six scoreless innings and tied his season-high with 11 strikeouts.
Misiorowski’s electric performance included a lot of high-octane heat. The right-hander fired 41 fastballs of at least 100.0 MPH, with an MLB-record 22 of them breaking 102.0 MPH.
Per Baseball Savant’s Statcast search, the previous record for total pitches thrown 102 MPH or greater in a single game belonged to Jordan Hicks. On May 19, 2019, Hicks threw 20 sinkers at that velocity.
Five other pitchers have recorded at least 10 pitches of at least 102 MPH. That list include relievers Aroldis Chapman, Mason Miller, Jhoan Duran, Ben Joyce, and Ryan Helsley. So not only did Misiorowski become the first pitcher to accomplish this feat, but he also set the record in the same game.

Misiorowski didn’t throw a cutter, but he struck out Judge twice. Both on fastballs with a velocity of at least 102.0 MPH. His slider clocked in as high as 98.6 MPH.
Nothing says “Welcome to the Big Leagues” more than 103.6 MPH on the inside black for Strike 1.

Jacob Misiorowski Among Frontrunners for 2026 NL Cy Young Award
After this dominant start, Misiorowski has a 2.45 ERA and 2.64 FIP over eight starts. In just 44 innings, he’s struck out 70 of the 177 hitters (39.5%) he’s faced in 2026.
He is by far the leader among National League starting pitchers in strikeout rate. The next closest is the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ Tyler Glasnow at 33.1%. To further contextualize that gap, Glasnow is closer to 12th place (Landen Roupp, 27.0%) than Misiorowski.
With such metrics, he’s among the favorite to win the National League’s Cy Young Award. However, reigning winner Paul Skenes won’t give up the award so easily. The right-hander raised the ante earlier this week with his own dominant performance against the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road.
Other pitchers in the conversation include Cristopher Sanchez, Nolan McLean, and Shohei Ohtani. Sanchez leads all NL starters with 1.6 fWAR entering play on May 8, although it remains to be seen if Misiorowski has overtaken him following his domination of the Yankees.
With nearly five more months left in the season, the NL Cy Young Award race should be one of the most compelling. And it wouldn’t be a shock if Misiorowski won it all.
