MLB Fans React To Anthony Volpe’s Apparent Blooper In Yankees Minor League Game

On Wednesday night, the New York Yankees will play the Texas Rangers (at home) in the Bronx for the second game of their series.

Also on Tuesday, their Triple-A Team (SWB RailRiders) played the Worcester Red Sox.

Anthony Volpe finished the 9-7 victory with one scored one run and one strikeout in six at-bats.

During the game, Spencer Jones hit a double that scored one run.

However, there was reason to believe that Volpe could have also scored on the play (from first base).

Here’s what fans were saying on social media:

@LouisBabcock12: “I hope volpe doesn’t get in his own head. He can work his way back.”

@PlayoffYankees: “Volpe certainly isn’t doing himself any favors”

@ShaqMitchell: “And that’s why he’s there”

@QuietRay: “Please keep Volpe away from my Yankees 😂”

@NY647764: “awful by volpe”

@kc_dos_siete: “I’m not making an excuse cuz this is bad. It looked like he thought the ball was fouled off. And I’m not sure how that could be. Don’t think it would be an outs issue”

@gibbs219283: “And this is why Volpe will be playing the year in the minors”

@mashmore98: “Had a few baserunning issues in Somerset as well.”

@ParkerYowell: “I swear this guy has ZERO baseball IQ.”

Volpe’s Background

Volpe was picked in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

As a rookie (in 2023), he won a Gold Glove Award.

Last season, the 25-year-old batted .212 with 19 home runs, 72 RBI’s, 65 runs and 18 stolen bases in 153 games for the Yankees.

Earlier this week, the team made a big announcement about Volpe.

The Yankees wrote (via X) on May 3: “Following today’s game, the Yankees returned INF Anthony Volpe from his rehab assignment, reinstated him from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.”
