Missing skier found dead, buried in snow at Winter Park

A skier was found dead last month at Winter Park Resort after his girlfriend reported him missing on the slopes, police said.

The man’s girlfriend reported him missing just before 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, according to a release from the Fraser Winter Park Police Department.

She told officers that her boyfriend didn’t show up to take the Ski Train back to Denver, police said. The train runs from Denver’s Union Station to the base of Winter Park and is scheduled to leave the ski resort at 4:30 p.m. daily Thursday through Monday.

Police said they pinged the man’s phone and Winter Park Ski Patrol members started a ground search for the missing skier, but they had no luck.

After a second, more detailed phone trace, search teams found the missing man partially buried in snow in a wooded area near the Mary Jane Ski Run, police said in the release.

Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, according to the release, and the man was pronounced dead at 7:53 p.m.
