Minnesota man charged with shooting man, firing at 2 CPD officers in Austin

A Minnesota man has been charged with shooting a man and trying to shoot two Chicago police officers early Saturday in Austin on the West Side.

Tiresias Young, 45, was arrested minutes after the shooting in the 1500 block of North Massasoit Avenue, Chicago police said.

Around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Young shot a 36-year-old man and then fired shots at responding officers, striking their squad car, police said. One officer returned fire.

No officers were injured, and three guns were recovered on the scene, police said.

Officers gave first aid to the victim, police said. His condition was not known.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident, and the officers involved have been placed on administrative duties during the investigation.

Young was scheduled to appear in court Monday.
