Milwaukee Brewers Urged To Trade for Two-Time All-Star Infielder for Power

All offseason, there was a lot of trade chatter surrounding Houston Astros infielder Isaac Paredes. General manager Dana Brown never ended up trading him despite several teams reportedly being interested. One of those teams that was not mentioned much was the Milwaukee Brewers.

Two of those teams that were reportedly interested were the Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Red Sox. If there is one team that could meet Houston’s asking price, a left-handed hitting outfielder, it’s Boston. Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow has a surplus of outfielders, Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu, who could be moved.

The Red Sox had a need over the offseason for an infielder, and Paredes fits what they needed. However, as talks apparently broke down between the clubs, Breslow pivoted to the Brewers. Boston was able to acquire Caleb Durbin, which took them out of the running for Paredes. Milwaukee needs an infielder, mainly at third base, and Paredes could be their answer.

Milwaukee Brewers Urged To Trade for Isaac Paredes

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report proposed some win-win trades ahead of Opening Day. He proposed that Milwaukee trade for Paredes.

Trade Proposal: Milwaukee Brewers get 3B Isaac Paredes; Houston Astros get OF Garrett Mitchell, LHP Aaron Ashby

Since trading Durbin, Milwaukee’s option at third base right now is Luis Rengifo, whom they recently signed. However, just from pure power numbers, Paredes would be an upgrade. In 147 games last season for the Los Angeles Angels, Rengifo had nine home runs and 43 RBIs. Paredes hit 20 home runs and drove in 53 runs in just 102 games.

“Even though they ranked third in the league in scoring last year, the Brewers had a shortage of power in their offense that is still apparent at the outset of 2026. This is where Paredes, who has averaged 29 homers per 162 games since 2022, would come in. And he’d be an instant upgrade at third base, where the Brewers’ best option might be the recently signed Luis Rengifo,” wrote Rymer.

Houston is reportedly looking for a left-handed bat as part of a return for Paredes. If that’s the case, then Mitchell would be what they’re looking for. However, he doesn’t solve the need for power as a left-handed bat, and doesn’t have the experience that Duran and Abreu have from Boston.

Milwaukee Brewers Need Power-Hitting Third Baseman

It was rather surprising that Milwaukee traded Durbin to the Red Sox for the return. They got left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, who Boston acquired from the San Francisco Giants in the Rafael Devers trade last June. The Brewers also acquired pitcher Shane Drohan and infielder David Hamilton.

Durbin could end up being a steal by the Red Sox. Milwaukee might regret letting him go. If they could swing a deal for Paredes, however, it would be an upgrade for Milwaukee. There were some changes for the Brewers over the offseason, but they are still in a position to compete in the National League Central Division. If they are going to win it again, they’ll need power, and a trade for Paredes makes a lot of sense for 2026.
