Michael Pittman Jr. Makes Thoughts Extremely Clear on Steelers Trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a lot of work left to do this offseason, particularly with the 2026 NFL Draft drawing near. However, they have already made several big moves, with perhaps the biggest of the bunch seeing them pick up wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts.

Pittman is expected to come in and team up with DK Metcalf to form a top-tier tandem for whoever ends up being the Steelers’ quarterback next year. Of course, the team is still waiting for some clarity on Aaron Rodgers‘ future, but regardless of who winds up under center, it sounds like Pittman is excited to get to work with his new team.

Michael Pittman Jr. Dishes on Steelers Trade

In 2025, the Steelers’ offense was weighed down by a lack of options on offense for Rodgers to throw to. Metcalf was obviously his top target, but there wasn’t really a consistent No. 2 threat. It got to the point where running back Kenneth Gainwell became that guy, but he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency.

Pittman should come in and immediately operate as the Steelers’ security blanket, whereas Metcalf is the big-play threat. During his six seasons with the Colts, Pittman was a consistent producer on offense, as he racked up a pair of 1,000-yard seasons in 2021 and 2023. With Indy investing a large sum of money in Alec Pierce, though, that forced the team to move on from Pittman.

At times, Pittman struggled to stand out in the Colts’ deep offense last year, but he still finished the year with 80 receptions for 784 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns. Now, he will team up with Metcalf to provide the Steelers with a solid one-two punch on offense, and Pittman made it clear that he is eager to get going in his new offensive scheme.

“We have a really great base group of guys,” Pittman said in an interview with R.org. “I think it just presents a challenge to defenses that if you’re going to try to cover DK, then it’s going to leave me open. If you’re going to try to cover me, it’s going to leave DK open. You try and cover us, it’s going to leave Rico (Dowdle) and Jaylen (Warren) open to run up the field. There’s so many weapons, and there’s so many great players, even our tight ends and everything.”

Pittsburgh has a lot of weapons on offense as of right now. Beyond Metcalf and Pittman, Rico Dowdle and Jaylen Warren appear set to form a strong running back duo, while Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington are leading the way at tight end. If the team could simply get some clarity on Rodgers’ status, it would be in a great position.

Pittman ultimately doesn’t seem too worried about the quarterback situation, because he’s confident that whoever is throwing passes on this team will be put in a great position to succeed. Rodgers’ status will be worth keeping tabs on, but in the meantime, fans will likely be curious to see if Pittsburgh’s front office decides to use one of its 12 draft picks on a quarterback next week.
