Metra announces schedule for holiday trains

Metra’s special holiday-themed trains will return beginning on Nov. 30 across six lines.

The $5 tickets for the experience go on sale beginning at noon on Nov. 11. The special holiday trains will run on Saturdays.

All trains will be decorated for the holidays and feature holiday characters on board.

The special trains will be featured on the Metra Electric, BNSF, Milwaukee District North, Rock Island, Union Pacific Northwest and Union Pacific North lines.

Metra Electric trains will stop at the North Pole winter wonderland at Millennium Station, which will feature holiday treats and activities.

Other downtown Metra stations will be decorated for the holidays.

Riders on holiday trains can take them back to where they boarded or stay downtown and return using their holiday train ticket for any scheduled train that day.

The CTA hasd not announced dates for its holiday train, which usually features Santa and his reindeer.

Metra holiday trains will run:

Nov. 30: Metra Electric LineDec. 7: BNSF LineDec. 14: Rock Island, Milwaukee District North, and Union Pacific Northwest linesDec. 21: Metra Electric (one train in the morning and one in the evening) and Union Pacific North lines.

Tickets, which need to be bought in advance and are expected to sell out, can be purchased at metra.com/HolidayTrains.
