Matteo Arnaldi takes on American star Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round of the 2026 French Open on June 1. Tiafoe, No. 19, is favored to win against the unseeded Italian.
Tiafoe is also a favorite to take the French Open title since Jannik Sinner, Ben Shelton, and Novak Djokovic are already out of contention. However, Arnaldi is not going down without a fight
The 25-year-old advanced to the fourth round after defeating Raphaël Collignon in a nearly five-hour showdown. Down 2-1, he fought back to win 6-4, 6-7, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6.
Not only is Arnaldi winning on the court, he’s also winning off the court, as well. Arnaldi announced his engagement to Mia Savio in September 2025. The couple captioned the joint post on Instagram, “Io e te per sempre,” which means “You and me forever.”

Savio and Arnaldi’s big day is just around the corner, and the tennis star shared exciting news about their wedding before his big run at Roland Garros.
Matteo Arnaldi Is ‘Loving’ All the Wedding Preparations With Fiancée Mia Savio
As Arnaldi hopes to make his first quarterfinals appearance in Paris, he also can’t help but gush about tying the knot with Savio, whom he first started dating in 2022.
“We’re loving all the preparations, all the big questions that they are giving to us. The only thing is the list. The list is getting longer and longer, so we had to cut out some things,” Arnaldi told reporters earlier this year with a laugh, per the ATP Tour.
However, he also admits that his future bride is doing most of the planning as he focuses on tennis. “She’s much better than me [with making the decisions], I wouldn’t choose anything. But we are doing it in my hometown, so that’s already the big thing for me. I’m good with that. The rest she can do.
“She can choose, she can plan everything and I’m happy with that. I don’t want to make mistakes or anything. It’s our day, but it’s more her day, so she has to make it perfect. Happy wife, happy life.”

Savio, who played tennis in high school, relocated from Australia to Italy after the couple started dating. However, there’s a lot more to her life than watching Arnaldi’s matches.
“She’s doing amazing (in Italy). She’s building the brand. It obviously is not easy in the world now to get into the clothing world because there are so many [brands],” Arnaldi said. “Everyone is doing so many things. Now even the fashion brands are doing sports clothes and stuff. It’s not easy, but she was very brave to get into that, to create her own line, and she does everything.”
He also loves having his future bride on the road with him as he competes. “It is nice to have family with you that you can spend time and just switch off a little bit from the tennis and enjoy a night out.”
