Masters’ Punishment Revealed Amid $19 Million Golfer’s NSFW Controversy

Things have not gone as planned for several golfers at the Masters, and their frustration is boiling over at Augusta National. One particular golfer went viral for all the wrong reasons during Round 1.

Robert MacIntyre was seen holding up his middle finger after a bad shot. It appears there was also some concerning language from MacIntyre as well.

At this point, Augusta National has only “reprimanded” MacIntyre as the golfer is not currently facing further discipline, per The Scotsman. MacIntyre’s bigger punishment may come in missing the cut at the Masters, which the golfer is unfortunately on pace to do at Augusta National.

“Bob MacIntyre was reprimanded by Masters officials at the end of his first round on Thursday over bad language and a one-fingered gesture,” The Scotsman revealed in an April 10, 2026, story.

“The Scotsman understands that the Oban man was reminded about a code of conduct for the event after a day to forget at Augusta National. He was already fizzing after running up a quadruple-bogey 9 en route to an eight-over-par 80, which left him 15 shots off the lead,” The Scotsman added.

“MacIntyre’s mood then turned even darker when one of the officials had a word with him after signing for his hugely-disappointing effort.”

Here’s what you need to know about the Masters controversy.

Robert MacIntyre on NSFW Language on the PGA Tour: ‘I’m Not Going to Change’

This is not the first time MacIntyre has found himself in controversy for actions on the golf course. During the Valero Texas Open, a hot mic picked up the golfer unleashing a string of salty language.

Heading into the Masters, MacIntyre emphasized that he had no plans to change. From language to wardrobe requirements, Augusta National has a little bit more formal standards during the Masters than some other PGA Tour venues.

“I wear my heart on my sleeve and I’m not going to change!” MacIntyre told The Scotsman’s Martin Dempster ahead of the Masters.

“… I know I am volatile and I know the bad language and stuff, but that’s just me. Even having a little one myself and knowing there are little ones around, I’m not going to change.”

Robert MacIntyre Is Unaware of Social Media Backlash: ‘To Be Honest, I Don’t See It’

MacIntyre has a special relationship with caddie Mike Burrow. This relationship allows MacIntyre to be a little loose with his tongue and not fear that Burrow is going to take it personally.

The golfer added that he does not see the fallout on social media. MacIntyre has had plenty of success on the PGA Tour, earning more than $19 million during his career.

“To be honest, I don’t see it,” MacIntyre explained to The Scotmsman. “I post then I run away. I don’t give a (expletive), to be honest with you, what people say. I think Mike is the best caddie in the world. We have barneys like everyone does.

“I wear my heart on my sleeve and, when I am running hot, I am running hot. Mike sometimes has to take it. At the end the day, I trust Mike and Mike trusts me.”
