Man takes deal in Greeley crowd shooting, sentenced to 3 years in prison

A 21-year-old man accused of shooting into a Greeley crowd of “auto enthusiasts” was sentenced to three years in prison after he took a deal and pleaded guilty to vehicular eluding, dropping a dozen other charges from his case, according to court records.

Alberto Corona pleaded guilty to felony vehicular eluding in December, court records show.

As part of the deal, additional charges of attempted first-degree murder, felony menacing, disorderly conduct, driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, displaying a fictitious license plate, driving an unregistered vehicle and five counts of possessing a weapon as a previous offender were dismissed by the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.

Just after midnight on Sept. 30, 2024, Corona drove by a crowd of nearly 60 “auto enthusiasts” in Greeley and fired multiple shots before driving away, according to the police department.

He later lost control of his car at U.S. 85 and 42nd Street in Evans, south of Greeley, and crashed into a power pole, police said.

Corona was sentenced by Weld County District Court Judge Anita Jain Crowther to three years in the Colorado Department of Corrections, according to court records. He was also ordered to pay roughly $430 in court costs and restitution.
