A man was seriously injured after a semi-truck slid on the road and struck him early Tuesday in Chicago Lawn on the South Side.
About 3:30 a.m., an SUV was going north in the 6700 block of South Western Avenue when the driver, a 31-year-old woman, turned left in front of the oncoming semi-truck going south, Chicago police said.
The semi-truck, driven by a 35-year-old man, collided with the SUV before striking a 66-year-old man and a bus shelter, police said.
The older man suffered a broken femur and cuts. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was in serious condition, police said.
The driver of the SUV suffered “minor injuries” and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where she was in good condition, officials said.
The SUV driver was issued citations for failure to reduce speed, failure to yield to a vehicle in the intersection, disobeying a turn signal indicator, no insurance and expired plates.
