Man shot in February during Austin robbery has died: officials

A man who was shot in the leg when another man tried to stop the robbery of a 68-year-old woman in February has died, officials said.

Isiah Matthews, 58, died on March 12 of complications from a remote gunshot wound, according to an autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Matthews was shot on Feb. 18 in the 5000 block of West Congress Parkway during the robbery of a 68-year-old woman, police and the medical examiner’s office said.

The 68-year-old victim was walking when she was approached by an unknown gunman who demanded her property, police said.

During the robbery, a 38-year-old man attempted to intervene and became involved in a physical altercation with the armed robber who suffered a single gunshot wound to his left leg, police said.

Williams was initially taken to Stroger Hospital but later transferred to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, police said.

Area Four Detectives are investigating.
