A 28-year-old man will spend the rest of his life in prison after beating his girlfriend to death in a Commerce City hotel room in 2022, according to prosecutors and court records.
On July 21, 2022, Adams County deputies arrested Angel Santana after they were called to the scene of the gruesome beating, where they found Santana’s severely injured girlfriend as well as pieces of the victim’s hair and blood spattered throughout the room.
The woman died after she was transported to a local hospital with brain damage, multiple skull fractures and a collapsed lung.
Santana’s hands were also injured, and his story changed as he was questioned by investigators, with Santana saying initially that he blacked out and didn’t know what happened to his girlfriend.
Santana was found guilty of first-degree murder last month and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole Thursday.
“The violence the victim endured at the hands of this defendant is truly unspeakable,” District Attorney Brian Mason said in a news release. “The defendant will now spend the rest of his life in prison for this terrible crime. No one should ever suffer violence from a partner or loved one.”
