A man was sentenced to 12 years in prison on March 21 in a fatal shooting at a Church’s Texas Chicken in Aurora in June 2024.
Jontaye Acoray Tassian, 25, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon and child abuse.
Tassian was arrested for second-degree murder in June, but the charge was dismissed in the plea deal. A charge of tampering with physical evidence was also dropped.
Tassian shot a man he reportedly didn’t know during an altercation at Church’s Texas Chicken at 11900 E. Colfax Ave., according to an Aurora Police Department news release. Tassian fled the scene with a woman. The victim was taken to a hospital where he later died.
