Man leaps from burning Humboldt Park building

A man was injured after jumping from the second floor of a home to escape a fire early Thursday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

The fire erupted in the attic of a two-story building in the 600 block of North Springfield Avenue around 1:50 a.m., Chicago police and fire officials said.

The resident who jumped was listed in fair condition at Stroger Hospital. Nine other residents escaped without injury.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
