Man killed, Thornton officer injured in early morning police shooting

An early morning police shooting in Thornton left one man dead and sent a police officer to the hospital, police said Wednesday.

The shooting happened near Gale Boulevard and West Thornton Parkway — between Pecos and Huron streets — the police department said in a 5:55 a.m. statement on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.

Police said the man died and paramedics transported the officer to a hospital with “serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
