Man killed in parking lot of south suburban bar after argument

A 31-year-old man was fatally shot early Sunday in the parking lot of Chug-A-Lug Pub & Grill in south suburban Glenwood, police said.

The man was leaving the bar at 18409 S. Halsted St. when he and his group got into an argument with another group of patrons, according to the Glenwood Police Department and a statement from Chug-A-Lug.

He was shot around 1:30 a.m. and the shooter fled shortly after, according to police. The bar’s statement says the shooting happened from “separate parked vehicles.”

Glenwood police are investigating the incident along with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. No one is in custody.

“We extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this incredibly difficult time. Our hearts are with them,” the bar’s statement reads. “We acknowledge the unfortunate reality that violence is an issue affecting parts of the Southland region. While this incident occurred in our parking lot, as patrons were leaving, and was not a reflection of the atmosphere inside Chug A Lug, we understand the broader context.”

This is the first time a shooting has happened on the bar’s premises, according to the establishment.
