Man killed in crash northeast of Longmont; southbound I-25 closed

A man was killed in a crash on southbound Interstate 25 that closed the interstate Monday, northeast of Longmont near the intersection of I-25 and Colorado 66.

The interstate is closed from exit 245, the exit for Weld County Road 34 in Mead, to mile marker 243, south of exit 243, according to a warning on COtrip, the Colorado Department of Transportation’s traffic-mapping website.

The man, who was driving a pickup truck, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Colorado State Patrol news release. The truck rolled over after a crash with a work van in a construction zone, the release states.

The driver of the work van did not report any injuries, according to the release.

State patrol did not know when the southbound lanes would be reopened, the release states. Southbound I-25 drivers should expect about a 23-minute delay, the warning says.

The Colorado State Patrol responded to the crash at 5:55 a.m., according to the release.

All southbound drivers must use exit 245 and take an alternate route, the warning states.

The crash remains under investigation.
