Man killed by train in Berkeley is identified

BERKELEY — A man who died Wednesday night after authorities said he was struck by an Amtrak train near Aquatic Park was identified by the coroner’s office Friday as Malik Cross, 28, of Oakland.

Cross was struck about 10:50 p.m. Wednesday on railroad tracks near Grayson Street by a Coast Starlight train traveling from Los Angeles to Seattle, authorities said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not said why they believe Cross was on the tracks.

None of the 198 passengers or crew on board the train were hurt.

The train was delayed for more than two hours while authorities investigated at the scene.

Amtrak is continuing to work with local law enforcement to look into the fatality, officials said.
