Man incarcerated in Denver jail dies after being found non-responsive in cell, sheriff’s department says

A man incarcerated in Denver’s Downtown Detention Center died after being found unresponsive in his housing unit just after midnight Friday, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

The man, whom the department did not identify, was discovered non-responsive at 12:30 a.m. Friday. A medical emergency team responded and the man was transported to Denver Health, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Denver Sheriff Department.

The Denver Police Department is investigating the death.

The sheriff’s department did not release further details Friday about the incident, citing the ongoing investigation.
