A man who allegedly stole a police car and a U.S. Postal Service truck that he crashed in Bridgeview is in custody. Two children and their mother were injured in the crash, authorities say.
The man stole a squad car Wednesday morning in Bedford Park as he was being arrested on disorderly conduct charges. He drove to an area near Chicago Ridge or Oak Lawn, where the squad car became disabled. He then stole a USPS truck occupied by a letter carrier, according to Bridgeview spokesperson Ray Hanania.
While driving north on Roberts Road, he collided with a woman driving with her two children about 3:30 p.m. near 87th Street, Hanania said.
The woman, whose age wasn’t released, and her two kids, ages 4 and 7, were taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where their conditions were stabilized, Hanania said.
Police are investigating.
