Palo Alto police confirmed that a case of a man who was found dead in a downtown parking garage on Thursday was a homicide, according to a department press release.
Police said the victim was in his 60s and appeared to be unhoused. An autopsy performed on Friday confirmed that the man was killed by blunt force trauma to his head, officials said in a news release Monday.
Officials with the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office confirmed the man’s identity Monday as James Allen Rudolph, 60. He was listed as a transient.
Authorities did not identify a suspect or potential motive.

A passerby called the death into the police around 12:15 p.m. Thursday, after they found the man down on the first floor of a city parking garage on the 400 block of Bryant Street.
Police said that evidence found at the scene suggested the death was suspicious in nature. A police dog searched the area for additional evidence and possible suspects.
Police said they are continuing to investigate the death and would release any additional information in the future as the case develops.
