Man fatally struck by car in Chicago Lawn; woman he’d argued with arrested

Alex Rivera, 32, was entering a car with a woman, 36, in the 2600 block of West 60th Street in Chicago Lawn at 4:50 a.m. on Sunday when police say a “verbal altercation” occurred and he refused to get into the vehicle. As the woman attempted to drive away, Rivera jumped in front of the vehicle, was run over and suffered abdominal injuries.

Rivera was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition. He later died, police said.

The woman, who has not been identified, was arrested at the scene, and Rivera’s death was ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The case remains under investigation.
